minus-square jlow (he/him) ( @jlow@beehaw.org ) linkfedilinkEnglish19•9 months agoAre there non-circular cylinders or what does that even mean.
minus-square pearsaltchocolatebar ( @pearsaltchocolatebar@discuss.online ) linkfedilinkEnglish7•9 months agoMaybe they meant prism, since a cylinder is technically one.
minus-square Blóðbók ( @sudoreboot@slrpnk.net ) linkfedilinkEnglish3•9 months agoMaybe what they’re trying to describe is a torus
minus-square letsgo ( @letsgo@lemm.ee ) linkfedilinkEnglish5•9 months agoNo they’d only model a bull as a torus.
minus-square AggressivelyPassive ( @agressivelyPassive@feddit.de ) linkfedilinkEnglish2•9 months agoNow, how exactly is a penguin toroidal?
minus-square letsgo ( @letsgo@lemm.ee ) linkfedilinkEnglish3•9 months agoIt has a single hole through its body from its mouth to its arsehole. IANAB but I think all other holes have at least a membrane between one end and the other. So it’s topologically equivalent to a teacup and a torus.
minus-square jlow (he/him) ( @jlow@beehaw.org ) linkfedilinkEnglish1•8 months agoImagine a donut-shaped penguin, love it! 😸
minus-square AggressivelyPassive ( @agressivelyPassive@feddit.de ) linkfedilinkEnglish2•9 months agoMaybe having halfspheres at the top and bottom? So more like a gas tank, less like a piece of sausage.
minus-square sqw ( @sqw@lemmy.sdf.org ) linkfedilinkEnglish1•9 months agoonly thing i can figure is maybe technically you could call an ellipsoidal prism a cylinder also? seems like a stretch.
minus-square jlow (he/him) ( @jlow@beehaw.org ) linkfedilinkEnglish1•8 months agoYeah, I also thought that there might be a cylinder based on a ellipse. Not very common but possible
