Not an expert, but I saw a YouTube video for making a hummingbird feeder out of a small soy sauce bottle with the red pour-out cap. Pretty good use of what would have been trash. As far as placement, as long as you can see the little beauties, it should be ok. I use a 1:4 sugar to water ratio for my feeder.
