It’s been some time since I talked with someone about that franchise. I played Dreamfall (the second game) first, on xbox, because it was in a bargain bin, and was pleasantly surprised. Then discovered the original and was absolutely blown away. I can tell you The Longest Journey is one of my favorite games ever. I supported the crowdfunding of the third game (Dreamfall Chapters) and got it on Steam, but haven’t played it to this day.
