It does probably make more sense to just get the cheap one and upgrade, but the etched glass is way better than matte screen protectors. There is no comparison.
While I haven’t seen it in person, I’d be willing to bet you’re correct. However with that option only on the 512gb model - I can’t really say if it justifies the price you’re paying just for that feature - or the other minuscule bits you get with the 512 model.
This was replacing my rpi4 as my primary desktop, so it spends most of its time docked and hooked up to an external monitor anyway. The amount I’ve used it outdoors, the matte protector has done well enough. I’d have felt foolish spending that extra hundred+ just for that feature I rarely need.
