Having two monitors should not noticeably impact performance. The difference is completely negligible, no matter the resolution of the attached secondary display. Rendering takes the bulk of the processing load, and a secondary screen doesn’t itself render anything.
I have a 2070 super with dual 1440 monitors. Spider-Man remastered runs at 90fps, high settings, with ray tracing so I’m not sure what this article is getting at with how only the newest high end video cards match consoles.
I often use my second monitor but just from a practical perspective, it doesn’t need to be all that nice. You may consider just upgrading your main monitor. Though, like you mentioned, an ultra wide might be a good choice.
I’ve thought about that but at that point I’d be getting a 27" monitor where my secondary/secondaries would be 24" and I don’t think my OCD would allow that honestly. I know it’s a small thing but I can already see it driving me up the wall.

I run one 1440p and one 1080p on a 6750XT, most games run fine for me. Have you tried with the 3070?

I mostly mean one day I’ll be able to justify dropping $1k on an ultrawide and be done with it. I know I’m absolutely underutilizing my card.
