I tried Mastodon when I was looking at Reddit alternatives, then immediately switched over to Lemmy. I think I like coming to a forum/community on social media (Reddit, Lemmy), instead of following specific people (Twitter, Mastodon). Looks like Threads is set up that same way, so I’m not interested right now.
However, I do use Instagram to keep up with my friends and family and a few artists that post their work. So maybe I’ll eventually try it out if enough of my contacts switch over. I’ll just have to wait and see.
I did try that, but I felt like I was only seeing half the conversation with all the reblogs and replies and everything. I was never a Twitter user though, so I’m probably just not used to social media set up that way. I think Beehaw is more my style.

In case you don’t know, you can actually follow hashtags on Mastodon. This allows you to practically follow a topic instead of specific people.
