Closed loops systems only work if the loop is kept closed. Its generally cheaper to install a closed loop system to say you have one, but then leave the loop open…
well then they are just lying. yes, evaporative cooling is more efficient to cool with but… the labs are aware of like - the bad evil water problems they are causing and… I like to believe that at least some of them aren’t lying when saying they use closed loop stuff. But ye, some are probably lying about it.
the problem with evaporative cooling is that it only cools down to about 100°C, below that it basically doesn’t do anything. meanwhile fresh river water can get you down to about 20°C.
yes, evaporative cooling is meh of course. closed loop is the way to go even if it… well… requires to actually cool the water.
