I think it’s not as black and what as you make it out to be. If people made a habit of doing this during performances then theater would just stop. The argument that given the ongoing horrors of the world it should do just that & people should just protest on the streets instead of sitting in a warm theater all merry & warm could perhaps be legit?
I just think a theater is a business with employees & they have to eat…
Nobody thinks its during the performance but everybody sees that its using the opera company’s mouthpiece. The company performs to and employs people of various backgrounds and persuasion and has every valid incentive to remain apolitical. It wants to engage the public in love for opera. And nothing else.
I truly don’t see what is so difficult to grasp here.
There are so many comments in here taking issue or acting as if this happened during the performance, including the one I am replying to: " If people made a habit of doing this during performances…" What I have yet to see a single comment suggest is that this performer is a spokesperson for the company.
Weird how you think something many are doing isn’t happening but something nobody said is being said often.
I don’t see what is difficult to grasp about responding to the very finite and limited statement I made about what curtain call means without using it as yet another opportunity to soapbox about the ethics of such an act.
If I had difficulty grasping what you said, I wouldn’t have been able to identify that you didn’t respond to anything I said and instead soapboxed about another matter entirely.
“Nobody cares about facts, we’re just here to spread our bad political takes!”
That explains how you saw “Why don’t people know what curtain call means” and thought a good response to that was “Well imagine if someone waved a Nazi flag!”

How do so many people see “curtain call” in the headline and still think this happened during the performance?

I mean… if you find it difficult to grasp, Im not sure what I can say.
Perhaps imagine you’re in charge of running a live theater company and after the show one of your actors starts waving around an Israeli flag.
If I had difficulty grasping what you said, I wouldn’t have been able to identify that you didn’t respond to anything I said and instead soapboxed about another matter entirely.
Buddy, nobody cares that it was after the performance.
My point is the same.
