New policy papers drafted by the German far-right party AfD
call for “deeper cooperation” with U.S. President Donald Trump’s
administration, Die
Welt reported on Nov. 2.
I would assume that the real alternative would be a right-wing -still bigoted- party that recognizes that Trump is retarded, recognizes that Russia is problematic & alongside all that they can still do the borderline fascist migrant policy & all that jazz. It’s really not that hard, alas they are really a Russian asset, they don’t really have people that actually believe all this crap. Perhaps we are lucky that they are, otherwise they could really sweep the elections like no one else has done in recent years.
It’s very unlikely they’ll get near 50% in the next two cycles. They can become the largest party, but luckily in German politics that’s not enough. Of course it’s still a dangerous situation if another party betrays their voters and allies with them.
Maybe? On this side of the Atlantic, toning down their message is the one thing the far-right can’t really do. Even suggesting that, within a party, would just mark you as a traitor.
The demographics of the far-right are pretty different over there, though, and so probably are the dynamics. Although, if you concede one form of nuance, you’re bound to concede more, and at some point you’re just another mainstream party.

You think they won’t?
