The Governor’s strategy for revitalizing her state has two parts: to grow, Michigan needs young people; to draw young people, it needs to have the social policies they want.
She appeals to independent voters in a state full of them. She was obviously the lesser of two evils candidate. If Republicans got their heads out of their asses they could retake the state, second term Gretch has been less appealing to more conservatively bent independents.
Basically she put in the effort to build a competent state government and lucked out that the Trump realignment didn’t bring voter to state elections.
