cwagner ( @cwagner@beehaw.org ) 41•1 year agoI wonder if the alleged leftists of Lemmy will keep cheering to this.
Zworf ( @Zworf@beehaw.org ) 23•1 year agoAs a “leftist” why should I cheer for an oppressive oligarchy? That makes no sense.
I think it’s very sad what’s happening there. And so wrong. LGBTQI people don’t harm anyone.
cwagner ( @cwagner@beehaw.org ) 26•1 year agoIt’s a reference to the fascists on hexbear and their friends, who all call themselves left and make up a large part of Lemmy. For them, left is anything that’s anti-USA.
Zworf ( @Zworf@beehaw.org ) 5•1 year agoAha I have encountered some of those yes. It’s why I left lemmy.lm (whose communities seem to be highly participated in by hexbear). I thought they were LGBTQI friendly but I quickly learned otherwise (Especially the T part seemed unwelcome there). I see what you mean by anti-USA too. I like beehaw a lot more so far, thank you.
cwagner ( @cwagner@beehaw.org ) 1•1 year agoIt’s sadly far wider-spread, it’s why I left the broader fediverse, returned to Reddit, and joined beehaw directly without subscribing to any external communities.
Look, we all know that Hexbear is questionable. There’s a reason we defederated from them. But let’s not go around throwing terms like “fascism” around like they don’t mean anything. We all know Hexbear is full of Marxist-Leninist trolls. We know.
FaeDrifter ( @FaeDrifter@midwest.social ) English4•1 year agoI mean, there’s also a reason that Marxism-Leninism and Stalinism was historically referred to as “red fascism”: Soviet ultra-nationalism, fetishization of violence, authoritarianism. They were very cosy with the Nazis when it came to carving up Poland between them.
Yeah they’re internet trolls that picked up the mantle, it’s not like they’ve done the work do deal with their internal issues.
cwagner ( @cwagner@beehaw.org ) 3•1 year agoWhile not everyone agrees, it’s not as if the description of Russia as a fascist state is completely pejorative, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism#Post-Soviet_Russia and the linked Ruscism article.

Pigeon ( @Lowbird@beehaw.org ) 15•1 year agoThey mean the tankies, of whom there is a large population on Lemmy. They indeed do not make sense.
They’re less of them on beehaw than elsewhere. Moreso to be found in lemmygrad and lemmy.ml.
Zworf ( @Zworf@beehaw.org ) 4•1 year agoStill, I wouldn’t understand why a tankie would be supporting today’s Russia. There is really no pretense of ideology left. The country is basically run by the mafia whose only ideology is “TAKE”. They don’t even pretend to be something else anymore.
Arguably the soviet union was like this too. I’m socialist economically (and progressive socially) but I wouldn’t consider the soviet union socialist. It was really just a veiled dictatorship.
ArxCyberwolf ( @Snowpix@lemmy.ca ) 7•1 year agoBecause Russia is anti-West, and that’s literally all that matters to them. Doesn’t matter what Russia, China, North Korea, etc do. The West is evil so they get a pass. Horribly stupid logic.
FaeDrifter ( @FaeDrifter@midwest.social ) English1•1 year agoTankies tend to be hyper-nationalist. The USSR was hyper-nationalist.
Tankies tend to project their own Soviet ultra-nationalism onto Russia and larp like it’s the same thing.
CabbageRelish ( @CabbageRelish@midwest.social ) English7•1 year agoYou could actually look and see that it’s firmly condemned.
cwagner ( @cwagner@beehaw.org ) 11•1 year agoI avoid visiting fascist sites, I had enough of that when I selfhosted, and before I blocked hexbear, and saw the cheerleading for civilians being bombed in Ukraine. But good to know they are not totally lost.
T (they/she) ( @Templa@beehaw.org ) 6•1 year agoPeople in the commends saying they miss the URSS like it used to be better then? What lol
FaeDrifter ( @FaeDrifter@midwest.social ) English3•1 year agoYou could actually look and see that it’s firmly condemned.
Yeah but I’m doomer lolling so hard at the “is this brand new or was Russia always queerphobic”.
We’ve been warning about this for years, but they’ve been way too busy being too edgy and contrarian to notice.
LegionEris [she/her] ( @LegionEris@feddit.nl ) 2•1 year agoWhy can’t I see any comments there? I can see the posts, but it says they all have 0 comments?
blackn1ght ( @blackn1ght@feddit.uk ) 1•1 year agoOne of you is defederated from the other.
LegionEris [she/her] ( @LegionEris@feddit.nl ) 2•1 year agoShit. That’s what I was afraid of. I guess feddit.nl isn’t the perfect neutral it once was. I specifically chose a home instance that would allow me to access Hexbear and some of the other more extreme instances. Is there a decent migration tool? I am established on this account and am a mod on a few communities. I don’t want to lose Hexbear or all my posts and positions.
blackn1ght ( @blackn1ght@feddit.uk ) 1•1 year agoI’m on my mobile so it’s difficult to tell as the instances list is so large on feddit.nl, but I don’t think your instance is blocking hexbear. It looks like hexbear has an allowed list of instances and it’s not a large list.
The best bet would be to create an account on hexbear if you want to follow it closely, but keep your existing account.
LegionEris [she/her] ( @LegionEris@feddit.nl ) 1•1 year agoI don’t want to follow closely, just occasionally dive in for fun perspective spectating. But maybe you’re on the right path with the Hexbear allow list. I should see if I can get Hexbear to allow feddit.nl.
roastedDeflator ( @roastedDeflator@kbin.social ) 20•1 year agoRussia outlaws ‘international LGBT public movement’ as extremist - 30 Nov 2023 - The Guardian
Russia’s supreme court has outlawed what it called an “international LGBT public movement” as extremist, in a landmark ruling that representatives of gay and transgender people warn will lead to arrests and prosecutions of the already repressed LGBTQ+ community.
Human rights activists have said the vague wording of the ruling that targets the “international LGBT public movement” allows Russian authorities to persecute any individual or organisation it considers to be part of the “movement”.
“Even though there is no such thing as an international LGBT movement, it is clear that all legal activities of LGBT organisations will be impossible in Russia,” said Igor Kochetkov, the head of the rights group Russian LGBT Network.

Police in Moscow have raided several gay clubs, local media report, a day after Russia’s Supreme Court moved to outlaw the “LGBT movement”.
Club goers were briefly held and their passports were photographed during the raids late on Friday, Telegram channel Ostorozhno Novosti said.
“In the middle of the party, the music was stopped, and [police] began going into the lounges”, one eyewitness told the outlet, adding that foreigners were also present at the gathering in central Moscow.
The raids came a day after Russia’s Supreme Court declared what it described as the “LGBT public movement” an extremist organisation and banned its activities across the country.
In recent years the country’s LGBT community has come under increasing pressure from the authorities, says the BBC’s Steve Rosenberg in Moscow.
Earlier this month, one Russian TV channel discoloured a rainbow in a South Korean pop video, to avoid being accused of violating the “gay propaganda” law.
