What album puts a chill in your spine? What gives you fearful butterflies in your stomach upon each listen? When was it recorded? I find a lot of early electronic music to fit that uncanny region for me, but that may be everybody.

Sun Ra - Out Beyond the Kingdom Of
The whole album is fascinating strange, but the opening track Discipline 99 is one of the only songs that legitimately scares me. It’s offers moments of fragile, almost painfully disarming beauty that is repeatedly interrupted by jarring, almost terrifying cacophony. It leaves me desperate for melody, worried about what the next note will be. The gentler moments are so gorgeous they make me want to cry, but the song leaves me in constant fear of dissonance.
Sun Ra recorded a few songs called “Discipline 99”, and most are completely different from the recording on Out Beyond the Kingdom Of, but I found the one I’m talking about on YouTube: https://youtu.be/m-Qi2pCIt9Y?si=rkV-HCxfk9pZ4nfD

CALIGULA by Lingua Ignota can be pretty disturbing, it was written as a way to process the trauma of their experiences with sexual assault.
Casualties of Cool by Devin Townsend can be kind of uncanny. Its supposed to be a concept album that sounds like a “haunted johnny cash album” the songs are good but a lot of the sound effects and such are really creepy

For the first time, I kinda regret having Spotify. I only listened to some of that… That’s just too much raw pain for 7:48 on a Wednesday morning. I hope they’re ok!

I’m just commenting because I find this to be an interesting topic, but I myself have never experienced anything like that from music.

Neil Cicierega’s Mouth Silence (2014), just because how much is hidden inside it:
Throughout the album, you may have noticed quiet and eerie low bassy wind sounds, most noticeable at the beginning or end of several songs.

He put out some great music as Lemon Demon as well. Big fan of Spirit Phone
