the phrase is “peanut butter and jelly” but i realized i’ve never actually had one with jelly before. i don’t think i’ve ever bought a jar of jelly in my life. how about you?
senkora ( @senkora@lemmy.zip ) English12•2 years agoNote that “jelly” in North America == “jam” in Britain. It’s another one of those words, like biscuit or pudding.
CosmxTi ( @CosmxTi@beehaw.org ) English5•2 years agoNot a fan of jelly. Preserves are preferred. Something about those fruit chunks and seeds make it taste better.
HowDoYouDo87 ( @HowDoYouDo87@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoI second preserves. They’re the best!
Rentlar ( @Rentlar@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoI’ve used Grape and Apple jelly. All the berries, (blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, strawberry) have been jams which I’ve used.
misguidedfunk ( @misguidedfunk@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoPreserves. Jelly has an odd texture.
HowlsSophie ( @HowlsSophie@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoI don’t think I’ve ever used jelly. Wait…there’s a mint jelly my dad used to buy but I never used it. Other than that it’s always been jam or preserves. The more fruit, the better.
luciole (he/him) ( @luciole@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoJam’s my jam 😎
TheAgeOfSuperboredom ( @TheAgeOfSuperboredom@lemmy.ca ) English2•2 years agoThe J stands for jam!
bbbhltz ( @bbbhltz@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years ago99% of the time, jam. I have probably used jelly once or twice.
For me, jam is made from the fruit and the pulp, jelly from the syrup or juice.
Gelatin-based “Jell-O” or jelly is something I miss where I live now. I mean, you can buy it, but not everywhere.
Baggins ( @baggins@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoNever!
Marmite and peanut butter is the way.
Or maybe peanut butter and some finely chopped fresh chilli.*
*Chilli flakes are acceptable as a last resort.
🇰 🌀 🇱 🇦 🇳 🇦 🇰 🇮 🏆 ( @Kolanaki@yiffit.net ) English2•2 years agoI use preserves.
UngodlyAudrey🏳️⚧️ ( @UngodlyAudrey@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoI burned out on PB&J after basically getting stuck eating it for lunch for most of my childhood. I think I’ve eaten less than 5 PB&J sandwiches in the past 15 years. But, yeah, not a big fan of jelly, but I do like occasionally putting jam on my toast.
whelmer ( @whelmer@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoI prefer honey. But what I do most mornings is toast with peanut butter, flax meal, hemp hearts, and sunflower seeds.
HanlonsButterknife ( @HanlonsButterknife@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoI strongly feel that grape makes the best PB&J’s, and I’ve never seen grape jam, only jelly so that I guess. If I was using any other flavor I would choose the jam option instead
Enfield [they/he] ( @nfld0001@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoYes 😉.
I’d say “whichever one has the more chunky/varied texture,” which I’m pretty sure puts me in the Jam Camp, but my local groceries never seem to be consistent with whether that should be called a jelly or a jam. I’ll take whatever’s put in front of me, but I personally enjoy having some texture variety in there with the seeds and fruit bits.
Except for marmalades. I definitely enjoy an orange marmalade on toast, but something about the idea of rinds feels icky in my PB sandwiches 😖.
ArtZuron ( @ArtZuron@beehaw.org ) English1•2 years agoI prefer jam. I like preserves as well.
