I’m moving to delete my account. Doing so logs me out.
But the account still exists. I can sign right back in.
How can I delete it permanently?
just as a side note, you have a LOT of comments. if you can bring yourself to do it, it’d be cool if you could just not delete the account. it’d be a shame to lose all that content, lemmy is in its’ early days still. sometimes it’s non-negotiable though, i get that. good luck.
My feelings about beehaw as a community changed today, which is why I’m leaving.
But I will give some thought to it. Maybe if the admins don’t delete it I can leave it in place and the comments and posts can be of some use to someone.

lemmy is in a weird spot generally with the GDPR in a way that we can’t really design around tbh. in any case this is almost certainly a general lemmy bug or something being caused by what we did to come up after the XSS issue because we haven’t tinkered with the delete account settings. someone also just tested self-removing as mod and replicated the weirdness you experienced there
may I ask what’s changed for you? just curious! not sure if I’ve missed something or if it’s just for personal reasons.
I don’t feel the need to go into detail, but it was an interaction in the mod discord that changed my mind.
Deciding to contribute regularly, let alone to mod a community, isn’t a light decision for me. It’s a lot of time and effort to spend.
So for me it doesn’t take more than one interaction that feels disrespectful and dismissive to decide that my time and energy is better spent elsewhere. I’ve been around more than one online community and feel as if I can recognize patterns by now. That’s what made me want to take my time and attention to another instance.
If the other party to that interaction wants to weigh in, that’s well within their power to do.
Good for you. The great thing about fediverse is that we can pick up and go somewhere else. Fediverse is a big place and hopefully you’re treated better wherever you end up.

to clarify: you are using the bottom most button here, and it is logging you out but then you can still log in?
Yup! I type my password, get logged out, but the account still exists. Also I press “leave mod team” and it doesn’t take.
I can’t seem to leave the c/news mod team either.

weird. i can remove you now so that’s been done; i’ve sent this and the account deletion issue (if it is one–might just be running slow? not sure) to the other admins to see if there’s anything weird going on here we need to fix.
