An ivy leaf peeking up through some mushrooms on a tree stump.

wildginger ( @wildginger@lemmy.myserv.one ) 6•6 months agoEnglish ivy is horridly invasive in most places it lands in.
Invasive is regional, of course, so check online with local botanical resources. But unless youre in its native range, its probably invasive.
It tends to only flower when it climbs, and birds eating the berries is the genuine worst way for it to spread, so a lot of places keep it as ground cover because it grows so damn well. But it always escapes eventually.
I didn’t know it was invasive. It’s established on two of my trees. Fortunately, it seems easy enough to cut the stems on the tree trunk.
wildginger ( @wildginger@lemmy.myserv.one ) 3•6 months agoOoooh, invasive or not english ivy will kill trees if it gets thick enough
Drusas ( @Drusas@kbin.social ) 2•6 months agoThis depends based on where you are, but in most places, absolutely, yes.
