I am trying to move away from spotify but am really stuck. Ytm has opensource mobile apps that can directly use ytm and its recommendations but spotify doesn’t have any decent option, but i like the recommendations more in spotify.
Ytm is very much connected to youtube it has videos and audio mixed up, its so bad. Also it needs to enable youtube history in order to save history of songs. I only consider it bcz of mobile apps solutions.
Spotify is what i really want to use but it doesn’t have foss app. But atleast it just records music and not get connected everywhere. Only downside is that i would be using propriety app which may have more trackers.
It comes does to which one to trust spotify or Google
What do you say?
ULS ( @ULS@lemmy.ml ) 5•4 months agoSpotube on Linux uses Spotify playlists and discover etc but plays the music from yt. Idk if there’s a a mobile app
Dave ( @Dave@lemmy.nz ) 6•4 months agoThere is Spotube on F-droid. There’s also Musify that doesn’t use Spotify so doesn’t need the Spotify account.
Also see Spotiflyer.
Each of these is a bit different so check them out and see which most suits your needs.
stepanzak ( @stepanzak@iusearchlinux.fyi ) 2•4 months agoSpotiflyer downloads from youtube, not directly from spotify. You can use zotify in termux to downlad directly from Spotify. Especially if you have premium spotify account, you can download all your favorite albums and playlists in premium quality.
HEXN3T ( @HEXN3T@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 5•4 months agoI’ll propose an alternative: Unless you listen to songs from a LOT of different albums, consider buying digital, or even buying CDs. From there, you can use whatever media player you want. Qobuz lets you buy lossless tracks. Then there’s Bandcamp, great for smaller artists, easy to download from. Neither are spooky.
The upfront cost is high, but it pays off in the long run. Plus, I’d say it’s unlikely for an audio file or CD to track you. Just saying.
If you NEED streaming, though, I’d say TIDAL is a better option than both Spotify and YTM. Qobuz is also considerable, but your mileage may vary.
Titou ( @Titou@feddit.de ) 4•4 months agoI use newpipe, it’s youtube, soundcloud, bandcamp, etc… combined in one but without the inconvenients
SnokenKeekaGuard ( @SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 3•4 months agoFor the music everything will use ytm or occasionally jeevn (like blackhole), but spotube is what will solve your problem.
Good luck
I know abt spotube. It’s really bad, hangs up and late start-up but most importantly plays youtube songs not spotify. Also I don’t know if recommendations work in spotube.
survivalmachine ( @survivalmachine@beehaw.org ) 2•4 months agoJust bite the bullet and move to the best fit. I jumped from spotify to ytm and I lost some features that I loved, but gained others.
Trust, though? Neither. They’re both terrible companies, but I am currently living in southeast Asia working for an American company, so it’s nice to pay $4 usd worth of local currency for a full youtube premium family membership. I know Google is spying on all the media I watch, but it’s convenient as heck to let my kid watch their YouTube channels with no ads and I get good music out of it.
For now I’ve used these apps Vimusic Musify Spmp Simpmusic Spotube Innertune Blackhole Beatbump Clipous
Pantherina ( @Pantherina@feddit.de ) 2•4 months agoCheckout soundbound, only on Playstore but works through Waydroid on x86_64 too.
Import their source list from their gitlab.
Then use spotify playlist share links to get all your stuff!
