solarvector ( @solarvector@lemmy.zip ) English57•30 days agoSilly academics and the limits to their tolerance for debt servitude.
Dr. Bob ( @DrBob@lemmy.ca ) English49•30 days agoBecause sessional teaching for $4000 a course is a great way to make a living. I mean a 5 course load could move you close to the poverty line!
Randomgal ( @Randomgal@lemmy.ca ) English45•30 days agoI’d assume they care more about feeding themselves and their families first.
OOFshoot ( @OofShoot@beehaw.org ) English21•30 days agoEveryone’s morals are affected by their paycheck, unfortunately.
dalekcaan ( @dalekcaan@lemm.ee ) English2•29 days agoCan’t feed the poor if you can’t feed yourself
twig ( @twig@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English13•29 days agoI don’t really think it’s fair to get mad at someone for prioritizing meeting their own needs. Pilgrim ( @Pilgrim@beehaw.org ) English5•29 days agoYeah, individuals make decisions within the structures that exist around them. Asking people to heroically sacrifice their own financial or career opportunities as opposed to changing those structures just won’t succeed.
Hence the title. ;)
smithkv ( @smithkv@beehaw.org ) English11•30 days agoI have literally never met or heard of somebody like this.
Drusas ( @Drusas@kbin.run ) 4•29 days agoFor real. College teaching jobs can be very competitive.
dogsoahC ( @dogsoahC@lemm.ee ) English9•30 days agoSo long as there’s privileged classes, I’d rather my boss be a lucky comrade than a racist reactionary.
