I used to strongly agree with this guy. But after getting into watching body-cam videos on the tubez, I now strongly adhere to the idea of never pissing off cops. Shut up and don’t tell them more than you have to, but don’t let this video turn you into a cocky shit about it trying to flex about knowing your rights. That’s the part that I think he left out in a terribly damaging way. Be careful to try to gauge whether you’ll just piss off a power-tripping asshole because you never know.
That said, asserting our rights are the truest expression of liberty, so there’s that to consider as well. But I’d rather not get physically harmed as a result.
The only things you should say are “I am invoking my right to remain silent, and I am invoking my right to an attorney.” Anything else is too much. I don’t believe anyone suggested “getting cocky,” although the fact that we even fear projecting cockiness to the police is a good example of how they are an oppressive force that must be abolished.
