Text:
All the ways people can be not cis
(Not really, there’s too many to list in a single post)
Transgender:
When one’s assigned gender at birth is different from one’s actual gender.
Ipsogender:
Intersex people who identify as their assigned gender at birth, but do not feel the term “cisgender” applies to them.
Ultergender:
Intersex people who identify as a gender other than their assigned gender at birth, but do not feel the term “transgender” describes them due to being intersex.
A “trans intersex” person.
Cisn’t:
An umbrella for anyone who isn’t cisgender.
Transn’t:
An umbrella for anyone who isn’t transgender.
Isogender:
When you’re not cis, but you don’t identify as trans.
Absgender:
Someone beyond, between or removed from cis/trans dichotomy.
Centrgender:
An umbrella for anyone who isn’t cisgender or transgender.
Utrinquegender:
Someone who has aspects of both trans and cis experiences.
Adgender:
When someone moves towards a particular gender expression. Includes trans people as well as people who are not trans but still transition.
Demicisgender:
Identifying partially as your assigned gender/sex at birth, and partially not.
Demitransgender:
Identifying partially, but not completely as transgender.
As shown here, it’s definately not a binary Even though some people think it is.
I made this because I wanted to educate people on the diversity of gender modalities and show that it’s way more complicated than saying not-cis = trans like people often say. There’s way more nuance to it.
Does anyone here think they may relate to any of these other labels? I relate and identify with Isogender personally.
I like isogender! This is my first exposure to the term. I was assigned male at birth despite being born intersex, then forced into multiple masculinizing surgeries up to age 9, and I now identify as nonbinary.
Trans doesn’t feel right, because technically I was born ‘nonbinary’, but I wasn’t assigned that at birth so I’m also not technically cis.
Edit: I also really like cisn’t lmao
This has a lot of labels, but why are agender, genderfluid and nonbinary missing?
I mainly included gender modalities and I didn’t think to include individual identity labels until after I’d already filled it up and finalized the graphic. I didn’t save project files since I did it in Pinta.
EDIT: OK, I just saw what “gender modality” is.
I think “gender modality” VS “gender idendity” don’t cover the cases of “genderflluid”, “nonbinary”, “a(po)gender”, “multigender”, etc very well, hence my confusion.
These are not simply identities, but also categories of identities and of configurations alike. But they’re not comparisons to the gender registered by the administration at birth (AGAB), so not “gender modalities”. Is there a third term to discuss gender configurations without comparing to AGAB?
↓ Initial message ↓
Aren’t at least “genderfluid” and “nonbinary”, and maybe “agender” (not sure) umbrella terms, though? I’d even say NB overlaps with most of the listed terms. As “bisexual” is used to described any sexual attraction profile with attraction toward more than one gender, “nonbinary” is also commonly used for any gender profile that doesn’t fit the traditional binary model.
Words are hard.

Yeah:
- Cisn’t (I wonder what word my french fellows use for this concept.)
- Demicisgender
- Isogender
- Multigender (again, not and individual identity)
- Nonbinary (in the common umbrella meaning)
I will probably stick with “nonbinary” and “demicisgender” in most non closeted cases though. Much easier to make other understand. (And in most case I’ll just stick with “man”, because closet.) I’ll keep the lesser known terms for more detailed, deeper discussions over gender.
