With the writing on the wall with firefoxes own version of “don’t be evil” being removed I was curious what people on beehaw were switching to.
millie ( @millie@beehaw.org ) English10•23 days agoIt sounds like they just swapped out a more colloquial phrasing for a more careful legal phrasing that they were required to have in order to function normally. It doesn’t sound as though anything’s changing at the moment.
If that’s the case it probably would have been better to add the legal phrasing onto it without removing the original phrasing. I am happy to continue using firefox as long as they don’t break their promise.
Noxy ( @noxypaws@pawb.social ) English10•23 days agosticking with regular Firefox for now. Mozilla is making some dumb decisions lately, for damn sure, but none that make me question using the browser without any “services”, yet
Chris Remington ( @remington@beehaw.org ) 8•23 days agoIf after the dust settles and Mozilla continues down that road, then I’ll switch to Zen.
Nice I will have to give Zen a try.
jherazob ( @jherazob@beehaw.org ) English1•22 days agoIsn’t it another Chromium-based browser?
Scary le Poo ( @Scary_le_Poo@beehaw.org ) 7•23 days agoRegular FF is fantastic. Idiots jump all over the FUD bait every single time. It’s truly pathetic.
jarfil ( @jarfil@beehaw.org ) 2•22 days agoThere is baseless FUD, and there is reasonable loss of trust. This one seems to have a reasonable explanation, but actions will speak louder. We’ll see.
belated_frog_pants ( @belated_frog_pants@beehaw.org ) 6•23 days agoLibrewolf for a couple of years now
a7777777777777777777 ( @user1942@beehaw.org ) 2•23 days agoWill the changes in the privacy policy not affect LibreWolf users, who are logged in to their Firefox account on LW? 🤔
IrritableOcelot ( @IrritableOcelot@beehaw.org ) 3•23 days agoThe changes to how account data is processed will effect anyone who logs in with their account. If you want to avoid changes, you cannot use a FF account.
a7777777777777777777 ( @user1942@beehaw.org ) 3•23 days agoAre you using LW without a logged in Firefox account?
Umbrias ( @Umbrias@beehaw.org ) 2•22 days agoi sure am. firefox has accounts?? huh?
TemporalSoup ( @TemporalSoup@beehaw.org ) 2•22 days agoThe accounts do automatic bookmark syncing and stuff
belated_frog_pants ( @belated_frog_pants@beehaw.org ) 1•21 days agoI am. Why do i wanna log into my browser? Bookmark syncing isnt something i personally need much
Whats librewolf like? I think I tried waterfox once but still prefered firefox.
Radiant_sir_radiant ( @Radiant_sir_radiant@beehaw.org ) 3•23 days agoI probably don’t count as Firefox is not my main browser, but I’m a very happy Vivaldi user. It’s Chrome-based but comes with a great built-in (optional) ad and tracking blocker already, has tons of customisation features and makes it easy to disable all things Google (permanently, even).
Chromium based competition is still better than no competition even though I am trying to avoid anything chrome based.
Radiant_sir_radiant ( @Radiant_sir_radiant@beehaw.org ) 1•23 days agoI share your sentiment towards a Chrome hegemony, and I tried to use Firefox as my main browser a few times in the past. It’s just that Vivaldi feels way more polished to me out-of-the-box. Some of the things probably just need some getting used to, but you know what they say about old habits…
