Blackout ( @Blackout@fedia.io ) 42•10 days agoCanada would definitely be safer being closer to Europe but how are you going to move all your stuff?
CanadaPlus ( @CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org ) English1•9 days agoAFAIK the oil pipelines are the main barrier there. Port capacity might be a problem too, but it doesn’t seem to be easy-to-find information. The road and rail system is nicely connected within Canada.
troed ( @troed@fedia.io ) 33•10 days agoThe EU and Canada share a land border. This is just natural.
(The EU and Brazil too, but one step at a time)
We also share a maritime border with France. May the universe bless Saint Pierre and Miquelon.
Venus_Ziegenfalle ( @Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org ) English11•9 days agoMAY THE SUN NEVER SET ON THE EUROPEAN
EMPUNION Goldholz ( @Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) English10•9 days agoIt already doesnt set. Thanks to frances overseas territories
Denixen ( @Denixen@feddit.nu ) English3•9 days agoAre we talking about Quebec? Because I’m pretty sure it is part of Canada, as strange as it might seem…
(FYI I love you Quebecians, I am sorry if I hurt anyone’s feelings!)
Kornblumenratte ( @Kornblumenratte@feddit.org ) English8•9 days agoDenmark. On Hans Island.
CanadaPlus ( @CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org ) English4•9 days agoThey prefer Quebecois (pronounced -wa) or Quebecers.
Denixen ( @Denixen@feddit.nu ) English2•8 days agoThanks for letting me know! I suspected it was wrong, but didn’t know what was correct. I was however certain that someone would correct me XD
CanadaPlus ( @CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org ) English1•8 days agoGood ol’ Cunningham’s law.
Denixen ( @Denixen@feddit.nu ) English2•7 days ago“The best way to get the right answer on the internet is not to ask a question; it’s to post the wrong answer.”
You learn something new every day.
CanadaPlus ( @CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org ) English1•9 days agoBrazil… Yeah, that’s one to waitlist along with Bosnia, probably. TBF they both could be strong members eventually.
Phytobus ( @Phytobus@lemm.ee ) English17•10 days agoNot sure about full membership at this point, but having our Canadian friends join in the EFTA / EEA would be great!
Daelsky ( @Daelsky@lemmy.ca ) English11•10 days agoAs a Canadian, I’d love to have a closer partnership.
Denixen ( @Denixen@feddit.nu ) English1•9 days agoWe have have CETA, which has the intent to harmonize our economies and trade already so we are pretty tight already.
cambelin61 ( @cambelin61@feddit.org ) English4•8 days agoThat’s why the EU is the best trade alliance. It gives you the opportunity to maintain your national autonomy and to benefit from the advantages of a trade alliance.
Obi ( @Obi@sopuli.xyz ) English3•8 days agoRight, I think this is the kind of model that should basically be scaled to the entire planet eventually. Maybe it’s regional alliances that nestle into a bigger alliance on top of whatever the specifics are, it’s clear the way to go is to preserve individual country/regional identities and independence while increasing cross-collaboration and alignment.
Phoenixz ( @phoenixz@lemmy.ca ) English4•9 days agoOf course we do but the question is if Europeans want us in. I’d think so, but I’d like to see
nutsack ( @nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English3•9 days agoI would straight up move to Canada if it had New York
Goldholz ( @Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) English2•9 days agoBut a new york with less cars and strodes
CanadaPlus ( @CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org ) English2•9 days agoNew York City is built more like a European city than every other American city, as of last I checked. I presume Buffalo is typical, though.
Goldholz ( @Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) English3•9 days agoYes, but it still has lots of cars
Venus_Ziegenfalle ( @Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org ) English1•9 days agoGive it a few years
CanadaPlus ( @CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org ) English3•9 days agoNYC alone has a population about half that of our whole country. Quebec would be apoplectic.
If we’re doing an uno-reverse on the whole annexation thing, we probably shouldn’t go south of Boston.
