A classic Hawks vs. Doves scenarios.

Out-sourcing like this to generate increased profits only works long-term if only a few select individuals do it - I.e. many doves to a few hawks.

… But rewarding short-term profit-seeking over sustainability mindedness drove every company to do this - meaning there’s hardly any doves left for all the hawks.

Just become a business to business company. No need for pesky poor consumers when your customer is another business.

Btw, I’m not an economist but I’m pretty sure an entirely b2b economy would be sustainable even without end consumers. We like to think that companies at least have to consider out purchasing power a bit but not really. Nvidia is enjoying unprecedented success by ignoring consumers and selling to tech companies. The more concentrated economic power becomes, the more companies will make this pivot.
