It’s kind of darkly hilarious to look at Russian population numbers pre WW1 and realize they would be a second China if only their dictators weren’t so willing to throw their people away for a sliver more wealth.

And, of course, if they had a population base of a billion+ they’d be stealing far more in taxes than they could loot anyways…
