Playstation’s decision to kill physical game discs is the latest attack on our diminishing rights to access and engage with culture digitally. Rent-seeking corporations and negligent lawmakers share the blame–and they can do better. Gamers are right to sound the alarm, and we must take this moment to fight for digital ownership before it’s too late.

    They’re royally shooting themselves in the foot with this one. There’s an extra level of irony given that it’s in the same year as the Halo 1 Remake, aka the game that carried the dumpster fire of a console that was the original xbox.

    Like I have zero incitive to buy a PS6. Especially after seeing how long the Ps4 stayed relevant (i have friends who still play theirs).

    When it’s time to upgrade I’ll probably turn my PlayStation into emulators and retire as a ‘contemporary gamer’. Turns out making me wait 10 years between game releases just made me appreciate playing older games more than paying for new ones.

    The physical disc doesn’t change the fact that you don’t own a license to the content otherwise than access through that medium.

    A digital copy, with a fair license agreement, you could be able to stream or download or access this content on something besides an easily breakable disc.

    But people are ducking retarded. Especially gamers. You live to be manipulated.
