To be honest, when Google Glass came out, I was kinda excited by the technology in hopes of the development and experience of augmented reality. Google was less evil then (but still well on its way to becoming evil).
In Neil Stephenson’s Snow Crash A gargoyle is someone who walks around continuously jacked into the internet (called the Metaverse – before Facebook took the Meta moniker). Gargoyles can look up anything at any moment, and could totally be annoying for the speed at which information was at the ready for them.
Hiro Protagonist (the main character; Yes, that’s his name.) eventually becomes a gargoyle in the course of the story.

I think cameras are the primary reason why we are seeing a significant shift in support for police.
Even to this day, people filming is why ICE tends to retreat.
I support cameras. I absolutely do not support tech companies making these cameras, and using the footage to train AI or worse, violate individual privacy.
Can confirm. The killing of Michael Brown and the following unrest in Ferguson was the first major police action in the US in which independent news correspondents streamed live footage on the field, and it didn’t get filtered by news agencies. It showed the police in their full brutal glory, wrecking the neighborhood with their MRAPs and saturating the area with CS gas without any objective except to make the community unlivable.
The world was aghast.
A similar thing happened during the George Floyd protests and then again when footage from Gaza escaped the internet. Apparently the public has no stomach for police brutality, for relentless military strikes on civilians or for genocide when they get to look at it up close.

Obviously not a fan of meta or surveillance but it might be nice to get all those creepy moments on record or at least make people more afraid to act that way in the first place.
Better than walking away and questioning whether or not it actually happened. Potential to print out pictures and publicity humiliate people who make it harder to participate in society.
