Also anonymity is a big challenge. MetaGer is also paid and they offer a browser extension to anonymously generate tokens somehow, so that your searches are probably not linked to your full payment information.

Btw, MetaGer solves the Firefox extension problem “blind signature” also via a separate app, which is a pretty bad solution

Yes but I pay that for a VPN that tunnels ALL my traffic, vs a search engine that retrieves a bit of text and a few images for me.
Different workloads, but I also pay my VPN anonymously, unlike such a search engine.
