Hey, Ask Lemmy, we all know that people love to talk about themselves, and I’d love to hear about some of your pleasant experiences. So, please, no matter how big; no matter how small, tell me something that you are proud to have made :)
I created a web server at a Raspberry Pi and I am not a programmer 🫡😋
Designed and built an automatic “garage door” for my vacuum robot (Dreame x40 Master) which is built a kitchen cabinet.
All made possible by valetudo, homeassistant and esphome
(almost) forged my own knife ! Of course there was an actual craftsman overseeing the process, explaining and showing everything, and handling the actually hard parts (making the piece of steel perfectly flat after we forged it, and making the actual edge of the knife after we pre-shaped it) but there were still a lot of steps where I could have fucked it up and I’m happy with the result ! That thing cuts better than my 350€ folding knife (the catch is that it’s regular steel, not stainless)
I self published two books and am very proud of them. Currently working on my third. The ideas are like little babies you craft into fully formed things, and it’s a journey to get there - like a jigsaw and the total number of pieces and the shape keep changing as you progress. I love the experience of piecing ideas into a whole, dropping clues and red herrings, building tension, working towards revelations.

I’m currently building a round shield. I have absolute no experience doing this and little to no woodworking experience so I know it won’t be the best or even good. But I’m proud non the less.

An ungodly mess of cables, planks, threaded rod, and old, used servers! My very own Proxmox Cluster! I have spent years tweaking and changing it, but I’ve had some services up (not, like, continuously) for 13 years now. The original server was an i7-950, and now I’m on dual Xeon Silver on my newest box.
Out of curiosity(and having a proxmox cluster myself): which services did you have for the longest time now?
Nextcloud! It was it’s own box, then a VM.
both last weekend, and this weekend I made sauce from my bucket loads of san marzano tomatoes. All the herbs (and the carrot I stuck in there) were from the garden too! Muy bien, very happy :)
That sounds delicious, although I do wonder what brings forth the need to make weekly batches of sauce.

Im glad you can see it. It is def not weekly, the garden tomatoes are just ripe.You either do something with them, or they rot, so Ive been making sauce :)
