But no matter the way it’s raised, beef comes with a steep climate cost.

No matter how you see it, only dead people are climate neutral.

It’s a false equivalency to claim there’s nothing we can do here. Emissions are significantly less large for eating plants directly compared to raising farm animals

Transitioning to plant-based diets (PBDs) has the potential to reduce diet-related land use by 76%, diet-related greenhouse gas emissions by 49%, eutrophication by 49%, and green and blue water use by 21% and 14%, respectively, whilst garnering substantial health co-benefits

      […]

Plant-based foods have a significantly smaller footprint on the environment than animal-based foods. Even the least sustainable vegetables and cereals cause less environmental harm than the lowest impact meat and dairy products [9].

Postfossil, the longterm sustainable planetary human population is below one billion. Perhaps as low as 100 million. So there’s definitely lots we can do here.

Even if no births happen from today on, there will still be billions of humans on this planet for decades. We very much need to take action today instead of waiting

this is relying entirely on poore-nemecek 2019, which is poorly methodized. the conclusion can be right, but the “research” can’t support this conclusion.

Decomposition gives off greenhouse gasses like methane, so even they aren’t neutral.
