ye but cyclers should expect pedestrians wandering there (unless its like denmark-style infra with fences, traffic lights and stuff). In most places they take an already not that enormous pavement, cut it in half and expect pedestrians to lane themselves 🤷♀️
all Im asking is some patience before jumping to assumptions other people are inconsiderate assholes
i think you might be in this meme… its bike infrastructure, meaning its explicitly for bikes. you feeling like you can use it for yourself without a bike and expecting cyclists to show you patience while you endanger yourself and get in the way is incredibly entitled. the whole point is so cyclists can go at speed without having to worry about a pedestrian suddenly getting in the way or being hit by a car.
Cyclists only ride on the pavement when there’s no other option (although one could argue that the road is an option, but in most cases that would be suicidal…).
A pedestrian walking onto the cycle path DOES have the pavement to walk on. And just because the red/blue/whatever painted asphalt looks more comfortable to walk on, it does not entitle you to it.
Also in most places, cycle paths are cut from the road, not from the pavement…
Cyclists drive on the pavement when there’s a huge puddle on the bike lane, or when it wasn’t maintained properly and turned into a washing board, or just to cut a corner. And godspeed to them, hope they slow down before corners.
Same as pedestrians go into the bike lane when two moms with strollers take the entire road, or when their dog wants to sniff the bushes, or if its faster to get to the busstop.
idk dude there’re more ways to be considerate other than regiment everything
It really depends on context. I bet you’re both right regarding where you live. In my home town some streets have large vehicles whiz right next to sidewalks (no parking buffer), and there’s a nice quiet bike lane with a grass buffer further away. The small number of cyclists and pedestrians often share the bike lane with no issue at all. Furthermore there are zones where multi-use paths are clearly indicated as shared space, especially in large parks, or over large bridges. On the other hand if I cross the river to the big city I’d never dare step by foot into those heavy traffic bike lanes.
Not really. The whole point of bike infrastructure is so we can move a still dangerously high speed traffic OFF of pedestrian areas.
Basically:
But yeah, do fuck cars.

If not getting mad over a cyclist driving on a pavement and vice-versa makes me entitled, then I guess I am entitled 😔
