What do you call those of us who have never heard of Tesco?
Implausible.
My aunt has lived in London (Earls Court, iirc) since the late 60s, and she’s more British than anyone I’ve ever met, despite being born and raised in Norway.
She calls both “fucking tesco”In Northern Ireland it’s called “wee Tesco”
Is it an unpopular opinion to say I’m basically done with Tesco, of any size?
It’s genuinely the bottom tier of supermarket for me now. It’s equal to Asda in being dreary and depressing, and their Tesco Price member scheme doesn’t feel like giving you good value if you’re a member - it feels like extortionately punishing you for not being. Which I am not, and don’t want to be.
Almost all my shopping now happens at Aldi. Great prices, recently refurbished and nice stores, good food, and no stupid app or member scheme at all.
And if I want something specific or fancy I’ll go the complete other end of the spectrum and visit M&S.
Tesco is dead to me.
Generally agree with all that, I really hate their card scheme. I don’t want to carry a card for each shop and have a massively bloated wallet for it and before anyone mentions an app, fuck off. I’m running calyx anyway and don’t want to hunt down an apk just to use a shop.
Aldi exists and doesn’t involve any of that crap.
Clubcard prices are 100% punishment for not being a member.
Same, it’s always a last minute necessity never a choice. The clubcard extortion racket was the last straw for me.
Aldi / Lidl are great. Netto too if you can find one in your area
About 20 years ago, there was a run of “small convenience stores” across Yorkshire called “Jacksons”. They probably bought out a lot of little “happy shopper” places and independents.
I first saw them in Leeds and thereabouts, but they were all over the place, and especially common in East Yorkshire (like there was one on every street in Hull city centre).
Anyway, anything of that size was eventually called a “Jacksons”.
Sainsbury eventually bought them out, so now they’re spelt “S A I N S B U R Y Apostrophe S”, but pronounced “Jacksons”.
This also applies to any other similar shop of that size.
So in some areas of Yorkshire, that’s a “Tesco’s Jacksons” and a “Big Tesco”.
Sometimes heard regular tesco called big tesco if you only have regular/express around.
Cardboard fish!
I will sometimes call “big Tesco” “propper Tesco”
What about Medium Tesco?

We do that with neighborhood vs supercenter Walmarts.
