It’s not, because it’s ridiculous to call the outside part a vagina. You don’t talk about guys having a shaved penis, do you?

Similarly when people call (femme-presenting) tits genitals.

Using proper terminology isn’t pedantic, it avoids confusion. There’s enough mysoginistic bullshit circulating around regarding women’s anatomy, we don’t have to perpetuate it ourselves.

Correcting somebody for using the obviously colloquial term is absolutely pedantic. Yes it is correctly to say the scientific term but thats just not what happens. Ultimately there was no confusion, nobody actually thought OP was talking about shaving the actual vagina, so what did making an “ummmm ackkchully” comment achieve in this scenario? Its just so weird.

I believe anyone should be able to do whatever they want with their pubes.

For myself? I fucking hate it. The razor burn, the second day stubble, the ingrown hair, just no. My skin is highly sensitive, so when the stubble starts coming in, it desensitizes my bits and I have a lot of difficulty trying to orgasm, like it gets so irritated to the point that it’s sometimes impossible for me to orgasm. It’s just awful, I have clippers to trim if it gets long, but no to full shave.

For the ladies I occasionally hook up with, I’d still prefer not full shave and just trimmed, but I’m not going to tell someone else what to do with their body. And if we are otherwise cool and consenting, I’ll still hook up with someone who chooses to shave.

If there’s hair growing in or on your vagina, you should discuss that with your doctor.

Shaved vulvas, on the other hand, are a matter of preference. I’m personally a pretty big fan of vulvas in general, but shaved ones tend to be lower on the list than others.

I don’t need anyone else’s thoughts on what I do with my parts I suppose. That’s pretty much all I think about it. Because what I do down there (or do not do) is my preference only.

  • Personally i have them trimmed, i find it extremly uncomfortable when they reach a certain length, like they tangle and it almost hurts and gets itchy which is weird. Also i can’t stress enough how disgusted i am by wet hair while getting eaten out, that sensation is just the worst. Sometimes i shave them off completely for sexy times, my boyfriend does not care that much day to day but is very excited about hairless vulva now and than.

In general i would like to not have everything about my body being political, i don’t want people to tell clean shaven women they are attracting pedophiles and hairy women that they only do it to make some kind of feminist statement. People like differnt things for personal non political or evil reasons and while we are obviously all influenced by our cultures and media, there is a time and place to discuss beautystandards, its not in the pants of individual women.

  • apparently an unpopular opinion here but bare vaginas are my favorite. not shaved necessarily because shaving is kinda the worst way to remove any hair but especially in such a sensitive area. it usually results in razor bumps, ingrown hairs, and pokey stubble no matter how well you shave. anyway my reasons are a little atypical since its not really about aesthetics for me. being gay i like to do lots of things with vaginas, and being autistic i find i have some sensory issues around hair, especially in my mouth. sooo i tend to prefer bare vaginas. as for myself im lasering my pubes off and it would be fantastic if shaving became unnecessary at some point.

      • its not too bad. depending on the laser unit and settings it might not hurt at all, but will probably hurt some. personally i find the magnitude of the pain isnt very high but its very sudden when the laser pulses. the suddenness is worse for me than drawn out pain for some reason, even if the pain has the same peak. regardless the first time is the worst and the pain lessens with every treatment as the hairs are damaged.

I prefer to be shaved because hair retains smell and I started to sweat excessively as I age. Much easier to stay fresh without hair there, same reason I shave my pits all year round. Also, I like when my husband is freshly shaved when I go down on him and I suspect the reverse is true too. In general, I think if you receive oral, it’s inconsiderate to not, at least, trim (ymmv). Other than that, if you’re young, fit, and your privates don’t smell funky in the evening, I don’t see a reason to do anything about the hair there.
