I love to take an open Sunday and fill it with cooking. Anybody else? Got any fav all day dishes?
I recently got into making pastys but my waist line is asking me to stop lol. But I do enjoy the time to make the filling, making the crust, letting it rest, making the pies, and baking off. Such a delicious result too. And they freeze wonderfully! Anyone looking for a recipe I would recommend Amy Thielan’s. She is so fantastic and her rutabaga pastys are delicious and kind of unusual too.
Anybody got any dishes to share?

What my husband and I call “Try Hard Lasagna”: we make a double batch of Marcella Hazan’s bolognese sauce (non-NYT link), fresh egg pasta, and bechamel. Then those all get layered with mozzarella and parmigianino cheeses into the best lasagna I’ve ever had.
I actually need to do this soon, because I promised a pregnant friend that I’d make her some in disposable loaf pans for easy post-partum meals.

I loooove making lasagna and thought mine was good, but I’m so excited to try this bolognese sauce recipe! I use Samin Nosrat’s pomarolla sauce which is pretty great, too.

I think the bechamel recipe we use is Samin’s!

Its grocery day and ramen preparation day. I get a whole chicken and part it out for meals later in the week, then do some all day stock making with the carcass. Also prep some softboiled eggs in a soy sauce curing liquid, and sous vide the chicken breasts with salt, sugar, and kombu. Then i have several days of easily assembled homemade ramen dinners.
Pita pizzas. Pitas, sauce, and cheese, put in the oven until cheese is melted.
I recommend pesto sauce

Moussaka.
You have to peel, slice, salt, and drain eggplant. Then cook it.
You have to peel, parboil, and slice potatoes.
Optionally also peel, slice, salt, drain, and cook zucchini.
You have to make your meat sauce. Make bechemel.
And then layer it all together and bake it.
It’s MANY hours.

Soup! Every fall/winter my fiance and I along with her father do Soup Sundays. We make a list of all the soups we want to do that year and then work through the list. Pretty much always make the stock from scratch so soup Sundays is usually me starting to boil down some bones around 10am and then going all day long.
