Oh no, yet more work for the Asahi Linux team…
- bloopernova ( @bloopernova@programming.dev ) 6•10 months ago
Will they support more then 2 displays in the MacBook pro or do I have to get the “ultra” version of the CPU like with m1 and m2?
- Grass ( @Grass@geddit.social ) 7•10 months ago
Is this for real? Man the rabid fanboys are even crazier than I thought.
- snowbell ( @snowbell@beehaw.org ) 7•10 months ago
Why would anyone who uses less than 3 displays (the vast majority of people) even care about only being able to use two displays?

Yup. People look at me weird when I complain about it though.
- bug ( @bug@lemmy.one ) 2•10 months ago
Workaround is to buy a DisplayLink dock which can run three monitors, insane that you have to use a third party solution though
- S0berage ( @S0berage@mstdn.ca ) 0•10 months ago
@bloopernova @King probably. Apple will milk your teets for every drop like a milking cow on a dairy farm. Apple is overhyped and overpriced normie-ware.

Can we please get an M3 iMac?
- collegefurtrader ( @collegefurtrader@discuss.tchncs.de ) 2•10 months ago
And they’ll be unable to update or run current software in 10 years, yay
- mainfrog ( @mainfrog@beehaw.org ) English14•10 months ago
Why do you think that?
- collegefurtrader ( @collegefurtrader@discuss.tchncs.de ) 5•10 months ago
I’m mad that my wife’s imac from 2013 can’t update and Plex server won’t run on its old operating system.
- AyeSiwmae ( @skurk@beehaw.org ) 18•10 months ago
My 6-year old PC can’t run Windows 11. Apple has some of the longest lasting software support in the industry.
- sin_free_for_00_days ( @sin_free_for_00_days@lemmy.one ) 6•10 months ago
If a 6 year old PC that cost as much as an Apple 6 years ago can’t run Windows, you got ripped off.
- AyeSiwmae ( @skurk@beehaw.org ) 3•10 months ago
I assembled it myself. It was more expensive than my M1 Air. It’s still a great machine. Microsoft just doesn’t support my CPU (i5 6600K) for some reason. It would probably run Windows very well if it was supported, I have no reason to think otherwise.
- bear_delune ( @bear_delune@beehaw.org ) 1•10 months ago
You could just bypass the cpu check

But yours can still run Plex
- Nuuskis9 ( @Nuuskis9@feddit.nl ) 3•10 months ago
What’s wrong with Linux? Wayland would run very nice on that screen.
- collegefurtrader ( @collegefurtrader@discuss.tchncs.de ) 3•10 months ago
I’m not authorized to “ruin” her computer. So I keep a Windows laptop on the closet shelf just for plex
- bassdruminphonebox ( @bassdruminphonebox@beehaw.org ) 2•10 months ago
A few years ago, I used dosdude’s “patcher” to install 10.13 on a pretty old MacBook Pro that couldn’t run it. It’s been working really well. I think “OpenCore” might the more modern version of this. Worth a look?
- Yuletide ( @Yuletide@beehaw.org ) 6•10 months ago
This looks super interesting https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/
Also wow people are upgrading iMac CPUs
https://lowendmac.com/2018/penryn-t9300-9500-cpu-upgrades-for-the-2007-imac/
I do miss the days of swappable parts especially the soldered ram is such a ripoff just for a few mm of thinness that I don’t need
