I just joined Lemmy / Beehaw coming from Reddit Is Fun after seeing 3rd party apps were shutting down due to the new API cost. I never posted on reddit, was just a lurker of r/nfl, but wanted to contribute this time around and say hi.

I’m a big NFL football fan and would love to see this movement take off. What’s your favorite sports? What’s going on in the leagues your following?

  • I’m an American Football fan, I love watching and following NFL and CFB Football. I love to see the moves and countermoves each team makes, watching elite athletes play chess in motion. Go Pack Go, and Go Buckeyes!

    • watching elite athletes play chess in motion

Nicely put. I recently got into Madden in the past year, picked up Madden 22 for ~$10 at Gamestop last summer. After playing it I’ve found watching games to be even more fun because I’m starting to recognize plays and coverages a lot better.

I’m a bit of a free floater in the NFL right now. I was a Patriots fan until Brady moved to Tampa. Now that he’s retired I don’t have a favorite team (I know, I know, I’m the worst type of sports fan lol). How are you feeling about Jordan Love taking over for Rodgers? I’m super excited to see all the memes and jokes after Love becomes the 3rd straight Packers HOF QB haha.

      • My journey was similar, I was casually watching before Madden 11 on the Wii. After that I enjoyed it even more, having a better understanding of plays on both sides of the, adjustments, and the rules.

Not the worst kind at all! While I’m a Packers fan, I grew up and live in New England so I definitely get watching and being a fan of Brady. I was lucky to watch him play and just enjoy the greatness, knowing it’s unlikely to ever close to happen again (as much as the NFL wants to push Mahomes being The Next Brady).

I’m ready for the next steps. It’s sad to see my childhood QB move on, but it was always going to be sad. Rodgers is My Quarterback, always will be. That doesn’t mean the repeated drawn put off season drama wasn’t exhausting. Since that’s past over to the Jets, it’s been great to see other Packers offseason pictures and such bubble up. I’m excited to see what Love brings to the table and what the Matt LeFleur offense looks like with a different style at the helm. I’m not expecting Love to be HOF just yet, after all it took a few years for Rodgers to be Rodgers. But I’d be here for NFCN fans melting down if that does happen. No matter what, I’m hoping for good football. No matter which way it goes, I do get to turn off the TV at the end of the game and go about my day.

        • Hey I appreciate that! My friends give me crap for being a Brady fan rather than a Patriots fan, but hey how can I not be a fan of the greatest haha.

It truly feels like the changing of the guards with Brady, Brees, Big Ben, etc, all retiring and Rodgers moving on from the Pack. But your raise a good point about not setting major expectations for Love, were getting to see so many new things with the old greats retiring. I’m looking forward to getting to enjoy the games and not setting “Super Bowl or bust” expectations haha. Here’s to a fun and exciting season!

    • This past march madness I had the least going on in my life and was able to sit down most nights and watch a few games. Most fun I’ve had watching college basketball on tv. Makes me want to watch more college basketball / football games. Do you have any recommendations on which matchups to look for? I love a blowout win when my alma mater is playing, but usually were the team getting blown out haha. When watching as a neutral fan I like to find games that have close scores, but that’s hard to do unless you start half way through the game ya know? The few times I have had time to sit down and watch a college football game I always end up picking the game that is completely lopsided, but I would love to get into it!

  • Migrating from RiF as well. Sad times. As bloated and poorly focused as r/nba was, it’s still hard to beat for breaking news.

I mainly follow the NBA, casual NFL fan. Hoping the Finals is as good as it feels like it should be.

Happy to have found a sports landing spot!

  • Baseball is one of my two true loves in the world. It’s the best time of year. The games, deep dives into stats and analytics, watching highlights, and the general weirdness that’s so common in the game makes for entertainment that really engages my adhd brain.

Side note, one really neat thing is this YouTube channel that has old radio broadcasts of games as far back as the 1930s. You can listen to a game that Babe Ruth played in. It’s great.

    • Oh neat, I’ll checkout that channel! I don’t follow baseball, but now that we’re all in one sports community as opposed to multiple different subreddits, I’m excited to learn more about different sports I wouldn’t have otherwise.

In the past couple years I’ve been loosely following Jomboy and his breakdowns. His videos are hilarious and easily digestible.
