I started a small farm this year, and this was my first meal sourced from my own plants and poultry!
SoaringFox ( @SoaringFox@beehaw.org ) English6•1 year agoThat’s very cool - what else do you keep on your farm?
I have a duck in my freezer that I may need to start thawing now…
Currently I keep a handful of chickens and ducks that I’m raising for eggs and meat, my veggie garden has tomatoes, spinach, lettuce, peas, and potatoes growing, and I just put seeds down for squash and cantaloupe! The goal this year is to be as self-sustaining as possible with scraps fed to the birds and their manure fertilizing the plants
SoaringFox ( @SoaringFox@beehaw.org ) English3•1 year agoNice, good luck! Would love to see more of what you make from your farm!
ayaya ( @ayaya@beehaw.org ) English3•1 year agoNice!!! The feeling of using your own ingredients is unparalleled 👌
Che Banana ( @Che_Donkey@lemmy.ml ) English2•1 year agoDid the duck taste gamey or mild? (I’m assuming mild because of feed, but curious to know, I was gifted wild duck that tasted like absolute ass).
Very mild, it tasted just like a steak. I haven’t had the opportunity to have wild duck, I assume it’s an acquired taste like grass-fed lamb.
