Going to the LoTR set prerelease draft. This will be my second prerelease, but I feel like all the matches I won were out of luck. I mostly play Commander with my friends, so a more standard format is a bit of a blind spot to me. Any tips?

Its easy to get stuck on a rare card’s theme or ability when building for limited formats (Prerelease/Draft/Sealed). Base your deck build on uncommons that share a theme and use the rares to supliment that instead of trying to build around one rare card. Once I started doing that my decks played better and didnt stall out if I couldn’t draw the one rare card during a game.

I would focus on having fun and making sure you stay within a cohesive theme instead of building around a single card or two.
It helps to familiarize yourself with the color archetypes for the set and the mechanics.

If you’re into podcasts, listening to some of the limited-focused MTG ones could help you. Lords of Limited or Limited Resources are good starting points. Here’s LoL’s primer on the LotR set: https://www.lordsoflimited.com/episodes/ltr-crash-course-episode-326
