I was so hyped before Fallout 76 and I was so disappointed after the launch and just threw it into the trash.
Bethesda can deliver triple A hype but the whole development story and the customer service behind Fallout 76 is just disgusting. The only positive about the whole disaster: This video. In my opinion it’s one of the best and entertaining videos of all time on YouTube. Watch it before you preorder.
“Internet Historian” is my go-to when I’m feeling down. Absolutely kills me whenever I watch a video from his channel.
His second channel “Incognito Mode” is also one I’d highly recommend!

I love the main channel, but I could never get into the second one.
Still highly recommend the main Internet Historian channel though!

Who steals a huge fuck off Bell?
I don’t know how many times I’ve watched the Costa Concordia Video…
Weirdly enough, that was the exact line from the video that was going through my mind when I typed up my comment!

It was pretty obvious that 76 wasn’t going to be great from the get go, but as always; never preorder games!

In all honesty, i doubt, it will be as bad as 76.
Unless they try to push the creation club by blocking mods and thus community patches,
It wont be nearly as bad.A lot of the issues with 76 stem from it being a multiplayer game.
The multiplayer aspect prevented mods& community bugfixes, and caused Cheaters & p2w.
Buggy messes are honestly what Bethesda’s already known for, so unless they are foolish enough to block the unofficial patches,
Its gonna be a somewhat decent release even if it won’t live up to the hype.I still wouldn’t be caught dead preordering anything Bethesda made,
But it certainly won’t be as disastrous as 76- JackOverlord ( @JackOverlord@beehaw.org ) 3•1 year ago
Unless they try to push the creation club by blocking mods and thus community patches,
Unlike certain other devs/publishers I don’t think Bethesda are dumb enough to think Skyrim would have been so successful for so long if they’d blocked mods.
If there’s one company I’m certain values mods very highly, it’s Bethesda. Simultaneously it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they put in the creation club right from the get go and tried pushing it more. But outright blocking, or hindering the creation of “normal” mods, doesn’t seem like something they’d do.

howard, director of the studio is also explicitly pro modding
Bethesda knows what it has, any push towards blocking modding is going to be a decision from higher up (microsoft, zenimax)

This game is one of my biggest pre-order regrets. I’m glad I didn’t get the power armor version (the recall and all) but still… so bad.
I preorded the game being a huge fallout fan and played the beta before launch… then I didnt touch the game for around 2 years. When I did go back however, it was right before the big wastelanders update which introduced an entirely new campaign and human npcs to the game. I ended up getting hooked once that update dropped, and I have maybe 6-700ish hours in the game now.
It really hurts me how bethesda handled this game, because there is some real solid stuff here. I think this is the best map bethesda has ever put out (ignoring the lack of cities), it is beyond gorgeous, massive, and has real diverse biomes as well. The wastelanders campaign has some fun and interesting characters, and the story is fun enough, they also dropped the 4-choice dialogue menu from fallout 4 in favor of something more 3/vegas esque. I have had some super fun and great multiplayer interactions too, the community is very nice and it is extremely common for high lvl players to just give you stuff as you’re starting out. You do really have to enjoy the looting n shooting more than the quests to get a lot of playtime out of this game though, as a lot of it post campaign completion is just grinding.
If they had released 76 with wastelanders from the get-go, with all those embarrassing bugs gone maybe the games reputation wouldnt be so bad. I dunno. But, if you already own it, and have been avoiding it, maybe give it another shot now. It’s no Vegas, but it is infinitely better than that terrible beta was.

They definitely should have delayed it. It’s much better now and I also dumped a crazy amount of hours into it during the pandemic.
- Goronmon ( @Goronmon@beehaw.org ) 3•1 year ago
I think I finally put some real time into the game not long after Wastelanders came out and I really enjoyed the game overall. Put I think roughly 150+ hours into the game at least.
The CAMP system was way more addicting than it has a right to be. To bad do much of the game is behind a cash shop.
The camp system got so much flak for just existing, but yeah it is so cool. I love finding these serene spots in the middle of nowhere and just building a nice comforting home out there. One of my favorite parts of the game to be honest.

76 made me a ton more hopeful for the future of bethesdas franchises than fallout 4 did
every major issue i had with the game was either a result of the dreadful launch, which i doubt they would repeat, or of what the game was trying to be, things that are fundamentally incompatible with their single player story based experiences and therefore not a concern when it comes to said experiences
I feel like I’m one of the only ones that enjoyed 76…

There are dozens of you!

Well, now we are two. Fo76 never disappointed me. Though I did wonder if they were crazy for focusing so much on PvP early on in a game so clearly unbalanced.
Though I wish they could have exanded the map a bit. Once everything was explored and the original main campaign was beat, I lost interest. Tried the new main campaign too, introducing NPCs, but the quests just took me to the same old places, and was thematically uninteresting and didn’t fit the world. BoS was better, but again theres a limit to how often I want to enter the few same buildings to find a quest item.

I’m with you. 95% of my enjoyment came from playing co-op with my childhood best friend (using discord for voice chat) who I had fallen out of contact with. When we encountered the (many) bugs, we had a good laugh and kept on going.
The 5% that actually came from gameplay? Hmm… Faschnacht was always a hoot. Creative camp builds was also a highlight (basically fallout 4 base building, but other humans actually get to appreciate your creation).
I tried picking up the game on PS5 recently and without the social piece it just seemed like an insurmountable grind (ex. how do I get the mutations I want for a fresh account? How long will it take to unlock backpack space again?)
Still, due to circumstances, co-op FO76 ended up being one of my top 5 gaming experiences in my last 40 years of video games.
- EnigmaNL ( @EnigmaNL@feddit.nl ) 4•1 year ago
Fallout 76 is a disgrace for the franchise imo. It should never have released like that (or at all).
Internet Historian is a great content creator, all his videos are 10/10.

Fallout 76 disappointed many customers at launch, it’s okay now but they lost a lot of reputation with that one.
- ash ( @ash@lemm.ee ) 3•1 year ago
when i first tried this game on PC, i couldn’t rotate walls to build myself a base at all. I tried a year and a half later and still couldn’t. Wonder if they ever fixed it but it was a major bug
- dewritoninja ( @dewritoninja@pawb.social ) 3•1 year ago
Tbf the main team at Bethesda wast really involved with 76 because they were supposedly working on starfield
- tiny_electron ( @tiny_electron@sh.itjust.works ) 2•1 year ago
I hope starfields does not end up like 76 :/

There is a lower chance now that their now-parent company Microsoft seems to be banking on this game

I have a lot of faith but I’m still not preordering.
I was very happy with what I saw yesterday though.
