I somehow suspect someone at that shell of a company is experiencing a delightful amount of schadenfreude

Lemmy needs awards Lol
Stumblinbear ( @Stumblinbear@pawb.social ) English10•2 years agoWould be interesting, but I’m not sure how you’d implement it in a federated system unless each instance sets up payment platforms. And it wouldn’t stop instances from giving them out for free
xavier666 ( @xavier666@lemm.ee ) English10•2 years agoThat would really be great. For 2 dollars a month, you get one free daily award. That alone would solve the server costs.
manitcor ( @manitcor@lemmy.intai.tech ) English7•2 years agothere are all kinds of interesting ways to help monetize these servers, i am def a fan of discord style “extras”
Stumblinbear ( @Stumblinbear@pawb.social ) English5•2 years agoCould just give supporters a badge or something, haha
xavier666 ( @xavier666@lemm.ee ) English5•2 years agoI like the concept of awards because it’s a nice way to
- quickly identify really good comments
- support the instance in a sustainable way
However (this might be controversial), I’m not a huge fan of meme awards. Reddit kind of incentivizes people to write meme responses which kind of pollutes threads. Maybe we can dial back a bit on that.
Stumblinbear ( @Stumblinbear@pawb.social ) English1•2 years agoHonestly I agree. I think Gold was enough, though the extra meme awards probably bring in quite a bit of money

I would love to know what he’s thinking right now
Stone4D ( @Stone4D@beehaw.org ) English14•2 years agoDigg may be in a cardboard box on a sidewalk but they’re having a great day.
Grumpy Chocobo ( @grumpychocobo@infosec.pub ) English5•2 years agoNot going to happen…but it would be kinda hilarious if the Reddit crap led to a reemergence of Digg.
EvilColeslaw ( @EvilColeslaw@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoIf anyone is left around at Digg that was there in 2010 then ya know, good for them this week. But otherwise, my god, I pity them.
