Khorgor666 ( @Khorgor666@feddit.de ) 2•2 years agoDuring my Apprenticeship the GF of a co-worker was driving as passenger on another co-workers brand-new Sports Bike, guys were close buddies, so no big deal, she just wanted to drive on a bike. Driver loses control and crashes into a crash rail. He is thrown right over the barrier, breaking his wrist. GF lands on the railing with her neck, basically decapitating her. Both guys never talked another word to each other, driver threw out all bis motorbike stuff.
Sploosh the Water ( @Skooshjones@vlemmy.net ) 1•2 years agoNot really an accident, but a childhood friend of mine died from a spinal meningitis infection in less than a day.
We were in cub scouts together. My mom got a call in the morning from a friend of his parents telling her to say a prayer because he had just been taken to a children’s hospital with severe head and neck pain.
That night my mom got another call from her saying that he had passed. Roughly 12 hours and the infection took him, an otherwise healthy kid. Totally out of the blue.
That was the first time I experienced a person I was close to die.
jeff ( @Yazee@beehaw.org ) 1•2 years agoI had some former roommates/ coworkers (male models) die in a tragic gasoline fight accident.
We were refueling, and a dance gasoline fight broke out. Someone sparked a lighter to have a smoke, and it didn’t end well.
Gone too soon.

KahunaDaKine ( @KahunaDaKine@startrek.website ) 1•2 years agoWhen I was in middle school a kid who went to the same Buddhist temple as my family died in a plane crash on Guam. Pilot error, apparently.
We weren’t BFFs but he was a nice kid and we had been on a few camping trips together just the year before. My younger sister was pretty close to him and got the news from his parents the day after the crash. He was popular so they ended up having something like a memorial for him at the Sunday school. People were pretty broken up about it. His parents ended up separating a few years afterward, though they stayed in touch with each other at least.
It was the first time anyone other than a grandparent or older relative I knew had died, so it kind of messed with my head for a while. I know I definitely haven’t really enjoyed flying ever since, at least.
