I am curious - has anyone tried out these color e-ink Android tablets with some popular drawing/painting apps?

I have a reMarkable 2, which is decent for quick black & white sketching - but I really want a color e-ink tablet one day, and I want to make sure that color drawing and sketching works well with them.

  • I have the onyx boox note air 2, while not in color, the tablet is fantastic. I’m weighing out my options to see if and when it could make sense to upgrade to the color option as my current tab is that good!

  • I think colored eink is a great idea, unfortunately I will never buy a boox device at this point. Their business model is similar to phone model, pushing out new model is much more important than maintaining old model.

IMO this practice is very wasteful, extremely bad for the environment (electronics are in general very toxic), and ultimately just anti consumer.

That being said, different people have different needs, and have to face different trade-offs. Absolutely no judgement if anyone decided to get one. I am just saying personally I would much prefer the supernote’s business model than boox.

  • I have the onyx boox nova air c which has a stylus and color e ink screen. I don’t really use it for drawing though. The colors are pretty limited (think a faded old timey comic book). But the stylus response is good. I haven’t tried drawing apps but I can run pretty much any android app on it.

I mostly use it for reading manga/webcomics, typing books, and reading. I’ve got it loaded up with a some Latin dictionaries so I can use it for language learning. The nova air c is an older model so maybe the color screen is better on the new ones lol.

The color is nice, but for serious artists I can’t imagine the nova air c is sufficient.
