i’m so unbelievably pissed off that a petty discord drama over two people getting banned killed the only major non-fandom-wikia farm out there. and it wasn’t even financially unstable, they were fully funded.

Do you have a source on what happened? I hadn’t heard anything about this, and the linked article doesn’t say anything other than “recent events.”

I’m curious too. It was a very good service and I’m really sad to see them go.

The Mastodon account has a bit more info, though it doesn’t go into the details.
there’s been a severe lack of volunteers for a while, there’s only 4 people left on the team after the recent fallout.

Looks like it’s not shutting down after all.

Still great thing is that they plan to still provide existing backups and not just trash everything.
Shit this is huge, any good alternatives? I feel bad for all the wikis that moved over looking for an alternative to fandom.
personally I’m moving to self hosting but that’s not viable for everyone. There doesn’t seem to be any direct replacement, other than wikitide but I wouldn’t trust that due to a few factors (ToS and Privacy policy ‘coming soon’ sounds legally dubious)

I feel like self-hosting is genuinely the best option regardless. That way you have full control and you can ensure your wiki never goes down.
