I picked up the Criterion BluRay during Barnes & Noble’s sale this summer after being aware of the film for a while. I was intrigued by the single-room story and the exploration of condemning someone as guilty, and the film totally blew me away. The acting was stellar, the writing is timeless, and the cinematography was magic the way it kept a single room visually interesting for 90 minutes.
10/10 everyone should watch it

I just watched 12 Angry Men (1957) for the first time and it is incredible.
Absolutely. It’s a timeless masterpiece in my opinion.

I remember watching it for the first time in my high school class and they were a pretty loud bunch that had a hard time paying attention. My teacher put this movie as part of one of our history lessons.
Everyone was glued to it, not a side conversation going on or anyone goofing off during it. Excellent movie!

I watched it with my partner not long ago and I was ready for a good albeit dry movie. Nah, that movie kept me enraptured for every second. Probably one of my favorite movies now.

I like the 1957 and the 1997 version but for different reasons. 1957 is certainly a timeless classic, and although it’s the same general plot line, I liked how 1997 reworked the arguments and keyed on more modern (post civil rights) views on racism. If you’ve not seen the 1997 version, it’s definitely worth a watch.
right?! To be honest I was almost certain it would bore me pretty fast, but I was pleasantly surprised and found myself intrigued from start to finish. Everything about it is great!

Yep! I have been teaching this play in my classes and we watch the movie at the end. It is amazing what all my students have to say about the themes of this story. Even my “I’m not a writer” students will jump to start the assignments. I can’t say enough good things about it.
