That’s a relief, I was expecting to go down swinging on that one, the Yes On Issue 1 people were spending stupid amounts of money and having all sorts of rallies about it, proud in the sun. I saw big banners in my town about it, you could feel the money.
Meanwhile, I’ll never forget going, “psst, hey, did you hear about the special election?” to the one and only woman at my work who I was 90% certain wasn’t a Trumper, getting her number, so I could email her some stuff about it, and it felt like a fucking drug deal. At one point, one of the other employees walked by, and I just stopped talking to her about it until they were out of earshot. That’s how the fuck we do around here, if we vote Blue. I’m still not sure about her, either. I might have exposed myself like a fool, though it shouldn’t matter much.
So yeah, I was not expecting the result, honestly. I guess the cities came through. When the whole state has to vote on it, you can’t run your little gerrymander games like you want to.
Next is November, I hope they got their signatures.

I live and work in a very Red part of Washington State. It is hard to express an opinion that is not popular. Good on you for sticking it out. I really respect you for that.
Me? Fuck them, I am that angry liberal/progressive that they try to trigger and I spend endless hours telling them how they should look at the subject because they are always getting screwed by their politics.

Very happy to see my eastern border state told the GOP they cannot have that power. This is awesome.
Proud of you, Ohio.

I was hopeful, since I’ve only seen one single yard sign supporting it and there was a steady trickle of early voters when I went mid-morning on a weekday a couple weeks ago, but this is still a big relief!

I saw that Clark County leaned No by a single vote. Wild. Some counties, like Medina and Lake, surprised me, and driving through Wood and Ottawa Counties last week, I had assumed they’d have loudly voted Yes, but I am pleasantly surprised with them too.

It’s not over yet. I’m scared the gop might make a comeback.

I’m not, I see the GOP going the way of the Federalists in the near future. My fear is that they won’t go down without a long, destructive, and bloody fight.
Indeed, my hope is that the Republican Party collapses. When that happened to the Whigs, the focus issue for the party that replaced them was the abolition of slavery. Here’s hoping the moral wing of the next right-wing party comes out swinging similarly strong for labor rights: not just speaking in favor and milking votes the way the Democrats do, but actually dealing with the problem and moving on.

It’s a great result! Now we just have to keep this energy level up through November as well. Definitely a huge boost, though, and important to celebrate a win!
