Debian release code names are derived from the names of characters in the movie Toy Story. This post lists Debian releases accompanied by images of their corresponding Toy Story characters.
tempest ( @tempest@lemmy.ca ) 31•2 years agoIt took me a while to realise this because by the time I learned about Debian they were already well into the secondary characters.
My favorite part remains naming the unstable release “sid”.
walden ( @walden@sub.wetshaving.social ) 5•2 years agoThat’s neat, I didn’t know that.
jecxjo ( @jecxjo@midwest.social ) English7•2 years agoThe name Debian comes from the original creator, Ian Murdock, and his wife Debra.
MariahWest ( @MariahWest@lemmy.ml ) 4•2 years agoDebian sid makes so much sense now
duncesplayed ( @duncesplayed@lemmy.one ) English4•2 years agoCool that someone put the pictures together. I knew they were named after Toy Story characters, but as someone who’s only watched the movie once or twice, I didn’t know all the minor characters, and never bothered to look them up.
Kangie ( @Kangie@lemmy.srcfiles.zip ) 3•2 years agoHow is this news? Why not just link to Wikipedia’s list of debian releases or something.
walden ( @walden@sub.wetshaving.social ) 19•2 years agoDoes wikipedia have pictures of the characters?
jimrob4 ( @jimrob4@midwest.social ) 2•2 years agoHow did I not notice this. Lol
P03 Locke ( @p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English2•2 years agoThis has been the case since Debian was launched, decades ago.
lud ( @lud@lemm.ee ) 3•2 years agoYes, that’s what the article says.
