this has taken a few days longer than i intended and there are reasons for that which are not ideal. in short: pretty much right as i went on vacation i broke my computer in a way that should have been a total loss and it’s currently in the shop for repairs. i do not have an ETA on when i can expect it back. this wouldn’t be such an issue but then on vacation my phone began to throw battery errors and is now basically bricked. luckily, i have a backup computer which i can work from for most things–and i’m typing this from here. this should at least allow me to keep some eyes on the website that i haven’t been able to previously, although not at the same convenience as usual.

but obviously this means i don’t have a few things currently: my main computer or my phone–and maybe not the money to cover these expenses. i am currently on the hook for what is going to be at least $270 and to say the least that is not a trivial amount of money for me. i hope to have that covered but i’m not sure i do.

i will hopefully know by the end of the week what the total cost of all of this is (and hopefully have my computer back by then). i’m also hoping a simple manual battery replacement will solve my phone’s problems in that time (i’ve placed an order which should come in tomorrow). but the circumstances are overall–and as you might be able to tell–not great

Few things frustrate in the same way as technical difficulties, so I hope you don’t have to suffer them for long. Here’s to hoping you’re fully on your digital feet again shortly!

    • because they’re physical computer issues for one thing, and for another thing i was on vacation for the first week they had to be dealt with and lost the ability to use my phone (which has none of my passwords anyways) the second week

The internet is a vast place, maybe someone would be in your area. If you were in illinois, I would have offered to fix your computer for free, because I thought beehaw community was supposed to be nice.

            Apparently fucking not.

            • hey homie, idk if you have thought about this exchange much in the time since, but i’m noting that you replied to the last comment that alyaza made before going MIA 9 days ago. alyaza may be an admin here, but she is a person and also appears to be going through a really tough time in her life right now. Beehaw is still a community to be kind, but it’s also okay for people to be having a bad week and misinterpret your intent. For all we know, alyaza may even regret snapping at you, but they don’t appear to have internet access enough to log on and say as much.

You don’t have to answer, but don’t need to take it personally either, it looks like normal grim reaper curiosity to me. Like “how much coffee did you spill on it”, or “did the caps outgass slowly or did they explode with sparks flying everywhere”, or “did the dog bite 1/3 or 1/2 of the screen, and could you have used the remaining half”. Some people have seen a lot of shit, and I mean A LOT… and we like to speculate.

Asking your community for help before dropping hundreds of dollars isn’t a physical or non physical issue.

As I said in my replies. The internet is vast, there isn’t a remote possibility that they are near other beeple that would be willing to handle it?

If they were in illinois or southern wisconsin, I could have done it for free.

I have also remotely, through video call, walked people through replacing computer parts with no issues.

It doesn’t matter if it is a physical or software problem. There are alternatives to being hundreds of dollars in the red.

Hi. You don’t know me, but programmer salary means I can foot $270 to help out our beloved admin — you’ve seemed stressed recently.

DM me on masto or discord (same name everywhere) to figure out how to exchange? 💜
