So last week I ordered some new earplugs for concerts, bandpractice and such, and they have failed to arrive. I’m a pretty patient dude so I wait for a couple of days thinking it’s just taking a bit longer.
Browsing through my mail I find out that they have apparently been delivered days ago.
Now the earplugs I ordered were clear, but I highly doubt they are invisible. No card was left in the mailbox, no “hey we delivered it at your neighbor’s place even though you were home…” Checking the track and trace says it was delivered yet they are not.
I try not to assume malice, but I’m pretty peeved about this, and it has got me wondering what your experiences are with goods that have mysteriously vanished upon delivery?

I had it happen last week. I got a “we see you’ve received your package, how do you like it?” email. Except I hadn’t. Tracking showed it dropped off 2 days earlier. My office door is open to a busy sidewalk and often unattended so I assumed the worst.
Finally found the culprit on camera. When the carrier left the package, they put it on top of a pile of other packages. As they were leaving, a gust of wind blew it straight into a nearby trash can. Where I happen to put all the empty packages, so it didn’t look out of place. And of course that was the day the trash gets taken out.
Kind of comical in hindsight. Just glad it wasn’t really anything important.

You found a real-life mimic in the form of a trash can!

One time I caught them in the act, so I made some pretty scary/angry threats and they never came back.
This was after having pretty constant issues for years. Someone stole my motorcycle in the middle of the night shortly after that though, I always wonder if that was their “revenge” or just a coincidence. Insurance payout was more than I paid for the bike though, so that was nice and I have an even better heavier bike now.

Financially you got ahead on the bike, but do you think the insurance claim, emotional toll, time without a bike, etc. was worth the improvement for the new bike? It seems easy for someone who has never been a victim of theft to just look at the numbers and assume that person is better off. How do you feel about your bike situation?
- snowbell ( @snowbell@beehaw.org ) English5•1 year ago
Fuck no. I’m still mad about it, my skills degraded in the months it took me get it all sorted out. I feel like I have to watch my bike like a hawk now. Got three separate alarm systems/trackers on it. And I still miss my old bike. I put a lot of TLC into it, and all that kinda feels wasted in retrospect. Makes me glad I procrastinated on some of the maintenance though, lol. Was going to replace the brake fluid but decided to wait a bit.

Keep in mind that lot of companies have USPS do the final mile of delivery. The original tracking may show delivered when USPS takes over.
In the end though, contact the company you purchased it from and ask them to track it down or replace it. This is their problem not yours. Do it soon as there are time limits if you need to reverse the charge.
Had this same thing happen to a fairly expensive HIPPA compliant USB flash drive a few years ago. It never showed up, the delivery company said they delivered it, the company sent a new one free of charge.
Also have a security camera too. I installed mine after the above issue.
