Hi everyone,
With all of the rising subscription prices, I am hoping to get some advice on the best Android device that will allow me to use the greatest number of streaming app (e.g, NewPipe, Stremio, Spotify apk, etc)
My nice-to-haves would be a device with a large screen (6.7 inches+), ease of installing apps, and durability. I used to have Samsung phones before which would be super laggy within 3 years of purchase, which I do not get with my current iPhone.
I am considering OnePlus and Pixels but am open to any suggestions!
I_like_cats ( @I_like_cats@lemmy.one ) English21•2 years agoBuy a pixel and install GrapheneOS
GrapheneOS
What’s the advantage of this OS over regular Android?
sibloure ( @sibloure@beehaw.org ) English11•2 years agoYou can disable network permissions for individual apps, which means no ads. Those spammy games that have a million ads suddenly are ad-free, no cracks or pirating needed.
That’s amazing, thank you

sleepybisexual ( @sleepybisexual@beehaw.org ) English1•10 months agoWhat does calyx to better than gos?
xuxxun ( @xuxxun@beehaw.org ) English1•10 months agoWow, it is a 9 month thread, what a blast from the past. Well, to me, everything, because graphene os does nothing for me- it simply does not support my device. I am not going to buy a fresh new expensive google phone … to degoogle. I am on a refurbished used phone with calyx, still getting updates, and very happy with my experience.

Yea, grapheneos is a tad too device fussy.
I should look into calyx for my ancient stuff
Square Singer ( @squaresinger@feddit.de ) English3•2 years agoBasically any Android with unlockable bootloader.
And you should get Lucky Patcher if you want to pirate in app payments.
ReversalHatchery ( @ReversalHatchery@beehaw.org ) English2•2 years agoUnlockable bootloader is not nearly enough. You have to make sure that the Android ROM you want to use still supports it, and if possible also that it will keep supporting it for a few more years.
Square Singer ( @squaresinger@feddit.de ) English2•2 years agoFor longevity reasons, yes. But what do you need a custom ROM for piracy? Root helps with piracy, since it allows you to e.g. modify the /data/data contents of an app.
But what good would a custom ROM do for piracy specifically?
And if they just want streaming (as it seems in the OP), literally any android phone is good enough, not even root needed. I don’t know of a single android phone that doesn’t allow sideloading.
kratoz29 ( @kratoz29@lemm.ee ) English2•2 years agoI’m doing just fine with my Poco F2 Pro and Paranoid Android.

Is this phone available in the US market?
kratoz29 ( @kratoz29@lemm.ee ) English1•2 years agoHuh, not sure, it is a 2019 phone I think, I got it from a local website.
