My humble takes on the most popular Lemmy instances, or “how to piss off the whole Fediverse with a single meme”.

Blahaj zone and beehaw don’t abuse defederation. Both instances use it for the exact purpose needed to achieve their goals. And I like that.
Literally the main reason I’m on blahaj zone is because I’m a trans lesbian and really don’t want to deal with the shit I’ve seen on the blocked instances.
The whole point of the fediverse is you join one that aligns with your values and queer phobic stuff is a hard line nope from me. It’s like the one place I feel reporting stuff actually does something.
I don’t disagree with that, I even said that much in the blahaj quadrant. I just wish there was an easier way to fix these problems instead of burning bridges, because they sure burn a lot of them.
Burnt bridges can’t be rebuilt. Refederation is always a possibility.
Beehaw has said they won’t defederate until Lemmy has better moderation tools. Which is something that is totally out of our control. I have no idea of better moderation tools or even on the road map and if they are I have no idea where on the road map they are.
No one does, there’s a whole discourse around the lack of a real roadmap for Lemmy and what the primary devs’ goals are. Hopefully it’ll happen someday, I guess.
Beehaw even said they’ll refederate with certain instances if/when moderation tools improve. The main problem is that there’s not a lot you can do to block off problematic users from instances on an individual basis.
If people took more than 30 seconds to read instead of being immediately reactionary, they’d have long since known beehaw’s defederations are due to a lack of lemmy’s own moderation tools currently.
But you can’t expect anyone to read anything. 😅
Beehaw wants positivity, that unfortunately requires over-reacting rather than under-reacting. It’s “better play it safe” to them, which I can understand. Doesn’t affect me, since I just use small instances that federate with all beehaw.org, lemmy.world, and sh.itjust.works, and I could always use multiple instances.

Some apps have it, I use it on Connect.
hmm yes sadly Sync doesn’t have that option yet. Butthat combined with a browser extension to filter posts on the website could work fine thosync does have that option. its in the settings under filters, you can filter whole instances

Sync’s filter doesn’t block comments unfortunately, so it’s of little help against users from Hexbear when they brigade.
Yes it is. Hopefully with 0.18.5, I’d like to think it’s been made a higher priority now.
As a former user of lemmy.world. I agree with this meme. That place is even worse than reddit.
Oh it’s awful. I hated it there and tried to not engage. It would have been helpful to know what each instance was like when I made an account on each of them.

My favorite part was that it points out what OP clearly thinks are flaws in Beehaw’s strategy but concedes that the strategy has worked.

Everything at the top of that can just go away. I don’t mind left or right wing necessarily. but their complete unwillingness to even concede the other people may have a point is infuriating. Interacting with them is pointless.

Oh hey sup, looks like my meme got reposted to a spin off PCM community I wasn’t even aware of, thanks for spreading the good word.
I suppose DIY folks would lean libright, something about wanting to fix your own stuff without having to rely on a community (communities tend to be associated with the left) + right to repair and wanting to do things your own way (libertarian).
… but of course without an instance or a community list to look at it’s hard to tell @JoShmoe@lemmy.zip.
