ReMikeAble ( @ReMikeAble@beehaw.org ) English16•2 years agoAnd thanks to this, I just lost The Game…had been winning it for at least a year, and now you’ve all lost too!
Suck_on_my_Presence ( @Suck_on_my_Presence@beehaw.org ) 8•2 years agoDear user,
Fuck you :)
Kindly,
A new loser.
ReMikeAble ( @ReMikeAble@beehaw.org ) English4•2 years agoDamnit! Just reading this I’ve lost again :)
DragonTypeWyvern ( @DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe ) 3•2 years agoAs someone who hates both the Game and those who say they can’t lose the Game because they don’t play the Game I have come to the conclusion that the only way to win the Game forever is to hunt all of you down like dogs and end this for good.
wintrparkgrl ( @wintrparkgrl@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoHow dare. It’s been like 3 years for me
Pigeon ( @Lowbird@beehaw.org ) 1•2 years agoWHY.
Signed,
not actually made
P.s. I just lost the game. D:
green_witch ( @green_witch@beehaw.org ) English13•2 years agoAbsolutely me irl.
Then they double down and explain again, but even more complicated this time around.
Auriferous ( @Auriferous@beehaw.org ) 10•2 years agoI have a gaming group with a significant number of ADHD players, and we all love the games that come with an animated/voiced tutorial. Especially if we’re just going to be playing a new casual game as a quick warmup and we don’t want to invest a ton of time or energy into getting the rules 100% right.
Kerrigor ( @Kerrigor@kbin.social ) 8•2 years agoSo accurate. Just let me read the damn rules for 2 minutes instead of listen to nonsense for 10+
ursakhiin ( @ursakhiin@beehaw.org ) 8•2 years agoThe main problem is that then everybody needs to read the rules separately.
The person explaining the game is trying to simplify things, so the intention is pure. They seldom take into account that they themselves may have played with misunderstood rules or that many people have the problem described in the comic.
It’s usually best to give everybody an opportunity to read as much as they care to and just play a practice game first.
Rentlar ( @Rentlar@beehaw.org ) 1•2 years agoDepending on the game, there ends up being a “actually you can’t do X and Y in the same turn, the rules say you have to do A after doing B, there’s a special case C with this game piece” like 20 times during the first few practice rounds.
ursakhiin ( @ursakhiin@beehaw.org ) 3•2 years agoI also try not to be the one explaining the game because if I forget something my wife accuses me if cheating during the practice round. 😂
She’s very competitive.
DarkeSword ( @DarkeSword@beehaw.org ) 5•2 years agoNot quite the same but another thing that happens is you always get the person who on their very first turn of a game they are playing for the very first time spends about 10 minutes trying to make the best possible move in the game. It’s like yo, just put the sheep in the barn as your first move, it’s fine, you can get grain points later.
xuxxun ( @xuxxun@beehaw.org ) English4•2 years agoWhy is this me I just zone out And get every second word at best
Gsus4 ( @Gsus4@feddit.nl ) 3•2 years agoIs there any game where you learn the instructions as you play, but it does not make a huge difference if you already know them beforehand?
I played one once where the rules were just the cards in play, so rules were unknown and changed as you went, it was fun, with some strange twists, but I can’t remember the name.
I think you’re thinking of Fluxx! They have tons of different flavors of Fluxx - the one i own is Star Fluxx, which is just littered with non-branded sci-fi references.
Gsus4 ( @Gsus4@feddit.nl ) 3•2 years agoYep, this is the one, thanks! :D
jjjalljs ( @jjjalljs@ttrpg.network ) 3•2 years agoSounds like Fluxx
Faresh ( @Faresh@lemmy.ml ) English1•2 years agoCalvinball could be an example of such a game.
alex [they, il] ( @alex@jlai.lu ) 2•2 years agoI try to listen for 5 minutes and then I just give up and ask for a mock run.
Laticauda ( @Laticauda@lemmy.ca ) 1•2 years agoExplain the rules as you play so that I have a concrete physical cue to follow and I’ll have a better chance of remembering.
