I’ve been catching up on and rewatching some lately. Legend, Highlander, The Never ending Story. What are some others that are similar? And why do 80s movies seem to hit different than other decades?
Frater Mus ( @fratermus@lemmy.sdf.org ) English45•2 years agoIt’s… inconceivable no one has said Princess Bride yet.
FippleStone ( @FippleStone@aussie.zone ) 3•2 years agoI think that word means what you think it means
Ransom ( @Ransom@lemmy.one ) English25•2 years agoWillow
Lee Duna ( @throws_lemy@lemmy.nz ) English22•2 years ago- Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
- My Neighbor Totoro
- Big Trouble in Little China
hoodatninja ( @hoodatninja@kbin.social ) 8•2 years agoNausicaa is so good
Trent ( @Trent@lemmy.ml ) English18•2 years agoDragonslayer was pretty good.
argo_yamato ( @argo_yamato@lemm.ee ) 7•2 years agoThis along with Legend. Excalibur was really good too.
Trent ( @Trent@lemmy.ml ) English4•2 years ago“We are all animals, my lady…”
Arghblarg ( @Arghblarg@lemmy.ca ) 17•2 years agoLadyhawke, Conan…
metaStatic ( @metaStatic@kbin.social ) 12•2 years agoThe Dark Crystal
Agingtoofast ( @Agingtoofast@reddthat.com ) English7•2 years agoHave you watched it as an adult? I loved that movie growing up and watched it a few years ago. Good lord, is it messed up…
Pulptastic ( @Pulptastic@midwest.social ) English2•2 years agoI really do not like the faces in this movie. Hard pass.
- Fizz ( @Fizz@lemmy.nz ) 2•2 years ago
I’ve only seen the Netflix remake but I really enjoyed it. Would you recommend going back and watching the original?
jmbmkn ( @jmbmkn@beehaw.org ) 5•2 years agoIt’s not a remake, it’s a prequel. So you should definitely watch the film.
metaStatic ( @metaStatic@kbin.social ) 3•2 years agoI didn’t even know there was a remake, so yes
Perrin42 ( @Perrin42@kbin.social ) 12•2 years agoCan’t forget Krull!
Thisfox ( @Thisfox@sopuli.xyz ) 12•2 years agoLabyrinth, Willow, and of course The Princess Bride.
shapis ( @shapis@lemmy.ml ) 11•2 years agoNot sure if it quite counts as fantasy but…
Everything about Blade Runner was perfect.
The sequel somehow managed to not drop the ball as well.
chunkystyles ( @chunkystyles@sopuli.xyz ) English4•2 years agoI think you’re selling the sequel very short.
It managed to build on the original.
outbound ( @outbound@lemmy.ca ) 10•2 years agoFlash Gordon
ArcaneSlime ( @ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 7•2 years agoAlso Flesh Gordon.
It is exactly what you think, but it’s more comedic than arousing.
Remmock ( @Remmock@kbin.social ) 9•2 years agoThe Secret of Nimh
Xanadu (Modern Fantasy)
Ladyhawke Remmock ( @Remmock@kbin.social ) 8•2 years agoOh, and Return to Oz.
2CatsOneBowl ( @2CatsOneBowl@aussie.zone ) English5•2 years agoThat movie is terrifying
Snassek ( @Snassek@lemm.ee ) 9•2 years agoClash of the Titans
kambusha ( @kambusha@feddit.ch ) 8•2 years agoThe Goonies, The Golden Child, Big Trouble in Little China, The Last Dragon, and The Monster Squad.
Bonus: I think Bill & Ted’s movies were in the 80s too? The one with Death I always felt was sort of similar to Never Ending Story.
pascal ( @pascal@lemm.ee ) 1•2 years agoWait, no Ghostbusters!?
lilShalom ( @lilShalom@lemmy.basedcount.com ) English7•2 years agoBig trouble in little china
Blackmist ( @Blackmist@feddit.uk ) English7•2 years agoDeathstalker 1 and 2 are underappreciated rubbish.
Cheap, tone deaf, bad acting, bad writing, catchy out of place theme music, pure entertainment.
